Abrasive FLEECE corrugated polishing DISCS for cleaning and matting | AO-003 "Coarse"

EICKELIT corrugated abrasive fleece polishing discs are ideal for cleaning and matting large areas of non-ferrous metals and stainless steel. The corrugated shape creates a strong cooling air flow, which optimizes the efficiency and durability of the polishing disc. The flexible fleece also allows even processing of shaped surfaces. Our selection of raw materials offers a wide variety of hardness levels and sanding thicknesses, each made from aluminum oxide and silicon carbide.

PRODUCT FEATURES

  • Three layers of abrasive fleece, laid in wide waves around a solid cardboard core
  • Diameter configurable from 200 - 400 mm
  • Trim width approx. 50 mm / core thickness approx. 30 mm
  • Freely selectable holes 10 - 60 mm

FIBER ABRASIVE FLEECE

  • When producing abrasive fleece, abrasive grinding bodies such as carborundum (made of silicon carbide) or corundum (made of aluminum oxide) are bonded to a nylon fiber nonwoven with a synthetic resin. As a result, the hardness and cooling effect of the abrasive fleece varies depending on the fiber thickness, the fleece density and the physical-chemical properties of the binding agent used.
  • Due to its free-flowing design, the fiber abrasive fleece is self-cleaning and does not clog during the grinding process. In addition, the chemical and physical strength of the fiber composite enables not only the use in dry processes, but also the use of water or oil media.
  • Because the nonwoven is flexible, it enables efficient processing of even complex profiles and geometries with low removal. Due to the constant wear of the carrier material, new abrasive particles are constantly released in uniform concentrations. Accordingly, polishing tools made of fiber abrasive fleece are extremely low-maintenance and provide a uniform grinding pattern throughout their entire service life.

ALUMINUM OXIDE (AO) / "CORUNDUM"

Corundum consists of over 95 percent aluminum oxide and is the most frequently used abrasive particle in abrasives. However, as the degree of purity increases, its hardness and brittleness increase, which has a negative effect on the longevity of the abrasive grain and thus on the uniformity of the grinding pattern. For this reason, we mainly use abrasive fleece with doped and therefore tougher types of corundum. On the one hand, this increases the service life of the polishing tools and, on the other hand, makes the grinding pattern more uniform overall compared to non-doped aluminum oxide.

AO-003

  • The aluminum oxide abrasive in AO-003 corresponds to a grain size of approx. 100 grit and provides a rough surface finish
  • The abrasive fleece AO-003 has a medium-strength texture

Areas of Application

  • Non-woven polishing tools are suitable for the surface treatment of metal (steel, INOX, non-ferrous metals and alloys) and non-metal surfaces (plastics, paints, wood, etc.)
  • Their wide area of application includes for instance cleaning, descaling, deburring, fine grinding, roughening, matting, satin finishing, etc.

Application Instructions

  • New abrasive fleece polishing tools must first be carefully run in until a uniform finish is achieved
  • In order to avoid overheating and a subsequent disturbance of the surface structure that is difficult to correct afterwards, abrasive fleece polishing tools should be operated with as moderate to low pressure as possible
  • Basically, the rule applies that a lower cutting speed produces a coarser matting image
  • The following guide values apply to the typical cutting speeds of non-woven abrasive polishing tools:
    • Non-ferrous metals 15-25 m/s
    • Steels 15-25 m/s
    • Thermosets 10-25 m/s
    • Thermoplastics 8-15 m/s
    • Acrylic glass 3-8 m/s
