Cleaning and matting with corrugated abrasive FLEECE DISCS AO-007 "'Very Fine"

EICKELIT abrasive fleece discs are ideal for cleaning or matting stell and non-ferrous and metals. The corrugated shape of the polishing disc promotes a cooling air flow, which ensures high efficiency and a long service life. Thanks to the flexibility of the fleece, even processing of shaped surfaces is possible. Our range includes a variety of strength levels and grain sizes based on aluminum oxide and silicon carbide.

PRODUCT FEATURES

  • Three layers of abrasive fleece, laid in wide waves around a solid cardboard core
  • Diameter configurable from 200 - 400 mm
  • Trim width approx. 50 mm / core thickness approx. 30 m
  • Freely selectable holes 10 - 60 mm

FIBER ABRASIVE FLEECE

  • During the production of abrasive fleece, abrasive particles such as silicon carbide ("carborundum") or aluminum oxide ("corundum") are attached to a nylon fiber felt fabric using synthetic resin. The strength and cooling effect of the abrasive fleece therefore depend on the fiber density, the fiber density and the physical-chemical properties of the binding agent used.
  • Due to its open construction, the fiber abrasive fleece is self-cleaning and is therefore not blocked during polishing. In addition, the chemical and physical resistance of the fiber composite is suitable for both dry use and for applications in combination with aqueous or oily media.
  • As the random fleece is very flexible, it enables efficient processing of complex profiles and geometries with gentle removal. Due to the constant wear of the carrier material, fresh abrasive particles are continuously released in a uniform concentration on the surface of the tool. Polishing tools made of fiber abrasive fleece are therefore particularly low-maintenance and provide a constant and even grinding pattern throughout their entire service life.

ALUMINUM OXIDE (AO) / "CORUNDUM"

Corundum consists largely of aluminum oxide and is the most common abrasive. With a higher quality, the hardness and brittleness increase, but this has an adverse effect on the longevity of the abrasive grain and thus on the uniformity of the grinding pattern. This is why we mainly use abrasive fleece with doped and consequently tougher types of corundum. This not only increases the service life of the polishing tools, but also generally provides a more balanced grinding result compared to undoped aluminum oxide.

AO-007

  • The aluminum oxide abrasive in AO-007 corresponds to a grain size of approx. Grit 240 and provides a very fine finish
  • The abrasive fleece AO-007 has a medium-strength texture

Areas of Application

  • Non-woven polishing tools are suitable for the surface treatment of metal (steel, INOX, non-ferrous metals and alloys) and non-metal surfaces (plastics, paints, wood, etc.)
  • Their wide area of application includes for instance cleaning, descaling, deburring, fine grinding, roughening, matting, satin finishing, etc.

Application Instructions

  • New abrasive fleece polishing tools must first be carefully run in until a uniform finish is achieved
  • In order to avoid overheating and a subsequent disturbance of the surface structure that is difficult to correct afterwards, abrasive fleece polishing tools should be operated with as moderate to low pressure as possible
  • Basically, the rule applies that a lower cutting speed produces a coarser matting image
  • The following guide values apply to the typical cutting speeds of non-woven abrasive polishing tools:
    • Non-ferrous metals 15-25 m/s
    • Steels 15-25 m/s
    • Thermosets 10-25 m/s
    • Thermoplastics 8-15 m/s
    • Acrylic glass 3-8 m/s

Protective Equipment when Polishing

When grinding and polishing, the work equipment used creates considerable health risks. It is therefore compulsory to wear suitable personal protective equipment for work safety when grinding and polishing. In particular, all rotating polishing and brushing tools may only be operated with suitable covers for reasons of occupational safety.

ISO 7010 M013 Wear eye / face protection

Wear eye / face protection

The fine dust emanating from polishing is harmful to the eyes. Flying parts can cause serious injuries to the face and eyes.

ISO 7010 M017 Wear respiratory protection

Wear respiratory protection

Fine dust contaminated with heavy metals and respirable, which can only be retained with suitable respiratory protection, is produced during polishing.

ISO 7010 M010 Wear protective clothing

Wear protective clothing

Flying parts can cause sensitive injuries all over the body.

ISO 7010 M009 Wear gloves

Wear gloves

In general, gloves should be worn when grinding and polishing. If there is a risk of being wound up (e.g. drills, processing small parts, etc.), gloves may be prohibited on the basis of a risk assessment.

ISO 7010 M003 Wear ear protection

Wear ear protection

Due to the noise exposure during grinding and polishing, it is necessary to wear suitable hearing protection on a regular basis.
